I cannot tell you how pleased I am to take over the Canby High School program this season, bringing with me a wealth of knowledge and energy, as well as a coaching philosophy centered around respect, hard work, and a focus on the "whole child" (academics, athletics, and service to others). I have extensive coaching experience at the club, high school, and collegiate levels.
I graduated in 2001 from Canby High School, and I lettered in volleyball for three years, basketball for two and in track (throwing) three years. I helped the Cougars win back-to-back league titles in 1998 and 1999 before earning All-Conference as middle blocker/outside hitter my senior year as well as serving as team captain. I also played for Canby Volleyball Club where my team consistantly was ranked in the top 16 in the region, as well as finishing in the top 50 teams at Volleyball Festival 1998. However, an injury prevented me from continuing my playing career at the collegiate level.
I began coaching at the club volleyball level in 2002, with the Canby Volleyball Club 16U and 18U teams and served as a head coach for five seasons, and also earned Coach of the Year honors from the Canby Kids Association in 2005. I later served as the varsity assistant at Sherwood High School in 2008 where I was also a Health and Physical Education teacher. I then coached at Athena Volleyball Club for one season, earning coach of the month for May 2009. Adventure then took my husband and I to the Chicago area, where I had the absolute pleasure coach at the elite volleyball club UNO, out of Joliet, Illinois. During the 2009-2010 season I served as the Head coach for the boys 17u elite team, and was the assistant for both the Girls 15u elite and 18u elite teams. I then served as the co-head coach of the girls 17u elite team for the 2010-2011 season where I helped guide them to a berth to the National Championships in Atlanta last June. Last fall, I also had the pleasure of serving as the Head Women's Volleyball Coach at Waubonsee Community College, where I was also an adjunct professor of Health and Physical Education. Although we only played with an active roster of 7- that's right... 7 players!! We finished with one of the best records in school history, (17-10), finished in the top halves of our Conference and Region, and had 3 players named to the all-Conference Team, and one named to All-Region. In December, we got the opportunity to return to Oregon, and I have spent this past season as an assistant coach for Club Ridge Volleyball.
I earned a B.S. in Community Health from Portland State University in 2007, and a M.A.T. in teaching from Concordia University (OR) in 2008

Hi, my name is Debbie Turrentine and I graduated from David Douglas High
School, too long ago. I am a long-time Canby resident and community
supporter. I have been with the Canby Volleyball Club for the last seven
years in many capacities, including President, Director, and Head Coach.
This is my 5th year as a Head Coach with Canby Volleyball Club. I coached
for 2 years at clubs prior. I played volleyball in middle school and high
school and continued to play recreationally. I have coached all levels and
age groups in this fantastic sport. I began as the Head Freshman Coach at
Canby High School last season and had an unbelievably great time with those
girls. Of course, I assist with Varsity as well. My goal is to teach my
teams the fundamentals of the game, along with competitiveness, leadership,
camaraderie and a genuine love of the sport. I look forward to a fantastic
season with these Canby Cougar volleyball teams!!
